FOLIO

A thin sheet folded onto itself. A cut that welcomes. An origami that protects.

FOLIO was designed for the bus stops of Termoli, in response to the first international call of the Architecture and Design Section of the Premio Termoli, one of Italy’s longest-running contemporary art prizes, founded in 1955. The brief asked for a shelter combining innovation, technological progress and environmental sustainability.

The answer is a single gesture. A thin sheet of press-braked steel folds back onto itself like an origami, and in one continuous surface defines roof, backrest and seat, while a cut in the sheet opens the place where people stop and wait. Finished in Corten or painted white, the shelter is installed flush with the pavement, with no step to overcome, and integrates a milled groove for LED lighting, a surface for information and advertising, and a space reserved for passengers with special needs, all within a footprint of 3.50 × 2.10 m.

Out of more than 170 international entries, FOLIO was selected among the 27 finalists by a jury formed by Laura Cherubini, Domitilla Dardi, Paolo De Matteis Larivera, Angela Rui and Andrea Viliani, for the exhibition of the 62nd Premio Termoli at MACTE, Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Termoli, in a shortlist that also included Atelier Biagetti and Sara Ricciardi.
