Every element works twice.

A compact Livorno apartment redesigned around a single principle: every element must serve more than one function. The project begins at the entrance — no longer a wasted transition space, but a full-height storage wall housing wardrobe and a slim washing machine. From there, two zones unfold in opposite directions.
Day and night were swapped relative to the existing layout. The former living area became the sleeping zone, with the bathroom divided into two distinct spaces: a compact WC and a full spa bathroom. The original bedroom became the living and kitchen area — open, flexible, and built around a custom joinery piece that anchors the whole room.
That piece is the project’s signature: a full-height bookcase and storage unit with a central pull-out drawer section that doubles as a bench. The fold-out table rests against the kitchen island; when extended and paired with the bookcase bench, it seats up to eight. A dining room that doesn’t exist until it’s needed.

Un appartamento compatto a Livorno riprogettato attorno a un principio unico: ogni elemento deve svolgere più di una funzione. Il progetto inizia dall’entrata — non più uno spazio di transizione sprecato, ma una parete attrezzata a tutta altezza che ospita guardaroba e lavatrice slim. Da lì si aprono due zone in direzioni opposte.
Zona giorno e zona notte sono state invertite rispetto allo stato di fatto. L’ex soggiorno è diventato la zona notte, con il bagno diviso in due ambienti distinti: un wc separato e un bagno spa completo. L’ex camera è diventata il living e la cucina — open space, flessibile, costruito attorno a un elemento di falegnameria su misura che struttura l’intero ambiente.
Quell’elemento è la firma del progetto: una libreria-contenitore a tutta altezza con una sezione centrale a cassettoni che funge anche da seduta. Il tavolo a ribalta è appoggiato all’isola cucina; quando esteso e abbinato alla seduta integrata della libreria, ospita fino a otto persone. Una sala da pranzo che non esiste finché non serve.
